Bionic Commando suffers poor sales in US

Capcom title only shifts 27,000 copies in region

Capcom's Bionic Commando only sold 27,000 units during May, according to data from the NPD group.

The title was created by Swedish studio Grin and was seen as one of the company's first truly global development projects, with US producer Ben Judd overseeing the project with guidance from Capcom's R&D head Keiji Inafune.

The 27,000 sales are between both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 SKUs, according to Gamasutra, in a month when revenue across the whole US industry was down 23 per cent.

Bionic Commando was specifically targeted at the North American market, and Inafune has said the global focus is essential in evolving the Capcom business outside of Japan.

"One of the key words we had to focus on was 'globalisation' and being able to sell our games on a global scale - not just Japan - was going to be one of the things to help us out of this pit," he said back in April at a company press event.

Another Grin title, the movie tie-in Terminator: Salvation, sold only 43,000 units during the same month. The developer is rumoured to have let a number of staff go, but has yet to make an official comment.
