Big debut for Mario Kart 7 puts it top of Japanese chart
Over 420,000 units sold in opening week, spiking 3DS sales
Mario Kart 7 has stormed the Japanese software chart this week, taking first in a strong field with 423,619 copies sold, according to sales data from Media Create.
The resultant surge in hardware sales saw the 3DS maintain its position as best-selling hardware, selling an extra 85,000 units over last week's total to reach 205,962 units sold in the last seven days.
Elsewhere in the software chart, Namco Bandai's Gundam Extreme VS. debuted at second, selling just shy of 350,000 copies. Super Mario 3D Land scored Nintendo another top 5 entry at third whilst Skyward Sword slipped below Ubisoft's new entry at fourth with Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
