Battlefield Heroes reaches 3 million registered players

50,000 new players joining free-to-play game every week

Electronic Arts' free-to-play shooter Battlefield Heroes now has three million registered players, the publisher has announced.

The web game reached player numbers of two million in September and has been notching up new ones at the rate of around 50,000 a week since then.

"Our players have already logged in over 1300 years worth of game time and nearly 300 million kills over 150 million five-minute game rounds," said Ben Cousins, GM of the Battlefield Heroes team. "The vast majority of our players play for free, but if they want to customise their character or enhance their game with weapon upgrades or 'widgets' then there is a cool item for them in our store."

Coinciding with the new landmark reached, EA also confirmed the release of a new game map named Sunset Showdown.

Battlefield Heroes went live last year in a closed beta phase, and was officially opened up earlier this year. Following the full release in June, EA announced that over one million players had registered in the first four weeks.
