Award-winning UK audio teams join forces

Side and Bob and Barn get it together

Building on a long and successful relationship with leading audio production company Side, award-winning composers and sound designers Andrew Barnabas and Paul Arnold of Bob and Barn have officially joined the company as in-house music and sound design supervisors.

The BAFTA nominated duo's association with Side - themselves winners of the Develop Industry Excellence Award for best outsourcing company in 2006 - has resulted in a string of critically acclaimed titles, including MediEvil Resurrection and Primal. The latter - an epic orchestral and choral score - earned Bob and Barn a BAFTA nomination and became the first ever game soundtrack sanctioned for CD release by Sony.

Side MD Andy Emery says: 'We're delighted that Bob and Barn are joining us as an official part of the team, not only because they are superb composers but also in recognition of their enormous talents as sound designers. Their work on games music - which includes managing live music sessions, such as those with the Prague Philharmonic - has been widely acclaimed, but it is perhaps less well known that their track record in the area of sound design is just as formidable.'

Having been actively involved in games music and sound design since 1990, with a succession of major titles under their belts, Bob and Barn bring a hefty CV of professional experience to Side, from supervising specialist recordings to surround-sound mixing, audio implementation and foley work. 'I simply can't think of anyone better qualified to oversee Side's music and sound design,' adds Emery.

Andrew Barnabas comments: 'We've known and worked alongside Side for many years and this seemed a natural progression for us. What it means in practical terms for clients is a single, complete and seamless audio outsourcing service - all sound elements are dealt with by one team. This ensures that the project runs smoothly, creating a superior product.'

Andy Emery believes this puts Side in their strongest position yet. 'Games producers can come to us with any scale of project and be fully assured of getting every aspect of their game audio co-ordinated under one roof by the best in the business - and therefore to a significantly higher level of quality than would be possible elsewhere.'
