Award winning Babel opens North American Facility
Babel's new North American facility is now fully operational with several high profile projects successfully completed since its doors opened a month ago, it was announced today (14th September 2005)
Babel, the specialist games services company, continues an ambitious international roll-out with its new operation in Montreal, Canada, specifically to address the North American games market. The new 120 seat facility provides functionality and localisation QA for PC, console, handheld and mobile platforms, as well as J2ME mobile porting and deployment, BREW porting will follow shortly.
"North America is the biggest market in the world and we need a presence there to service our growing number of trans-Atlantic clients," said Algy Williams, Managing Director of Babel. "And there's a very good reason why we based our new subsidiary, Babel Games Services Inc., in Montreal. It is one of the best and most vibrant games clusters in the world."
Earlier this month, Babel was awarded Best Outsourcing Company at the 2005 Develop Industry Excellence awards. The awards, with a voting panel drawn from industry experts, recognise the talent and skills of Europe's games development community. Babel has now won this award in two out of the three years that the awards have run. The company was short-listed against four other outsourcing and service companies. According to the Sunday Times Fast Track 100, Babel is also one of the UK's fastest growing private companies.
Babel was recently selected as one of only three approved European test houses for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft; the company maintains developer status with Sony and Nintendo; it is one of two test houses to run Vodafone Live!'s certification programme and it is an official test house for Sun Microsystems' Java Verified program.
In May, the company raised venture capital from the Noble Group to fund its expansion. Babel employs over 250 full-time and contract staff in Brighton, Montreal, Los Angeles and New Delhi, working across QA, localisation and online marketing online as well as mobile porting deployment and certification. Increasingly the company is working on multi-platform, multilingual titles that require the full range of Babel's services from localisation, audio and print to QA testing and marketing services.
