Austalia Charts: Doom 3 debuts at number one

Activision has racked up yet another number one in Australia, with the latest charts from GFK Group showing that the company's PC title Doom 3 took the top spot in the territory in its first week on sale.

id Software's latest title, which has been some four years in the making, has been topping charts worldwide since it was first released in North America at the start of this month, and is widely expected to be number one here in the UK in tomorrow's Chart-Track ranking.

Aside from Doom 3, there were no other new entries in the Australian top ten for the week ended August 8th. Need For Speed Underground (PS2) retained its second place position, with the Platinum edition of the game providing a major sales boost, while Sony's Athens 2004 (PS2) rose to number three.

Two other Platinum titles also made it into the top ten ranking, with Medal of Honour Rising Sun (PS2) and Ratchet & Clank 2 (PS2) both climbing up the charts thanks to their budget releases, while the launch of Need for Speed Underground on the Xbox Classics range has also helped to push it up the charts - it's at this week's number four.
