Asteri acquires Prima Games

Strategy guide brand leaves behind physical releases, looks to help developers gather player feedback on unfinished titles

Prima Games will live on. Asteri Holdings today announced that it has acquired Prima Games, which will continue on in digital form only.

Last year, Prima parent DK Publishers announced that the company planned to discontinue the Prima imprint this spring, and had ceased commissioning new strategy guides.

Asteri has said it will continue to operate the Prima Games website, with new content provided by Greenlit Content, owner of Casual Connect conferences and GamesDaily.biz.

"On its face, the Prima site will continue to function as a gaming portal serving up gaming news and player tips for fans of all ages," Asteri founder and CEO Steve Gray said. "Beginning today, as part of the Asteri consumer testing network, Prima Games will also serve as a hub for game creators to gather critical player feedback on projects in development. It's truly a perfect fit for the Asteri network."

Prima was founded in 1990, eventually becoming a dominant name in the print strategy guide market. Its acquisition continues not only its own legacy but that of fellow strategy guide label Brady Games, which merged with Prima in 2015.
