Akiba's Trip PS4 fails to trouble Japanese chart

Nudity-obsessed brawler can't take advantage of a slow week for games

There were was little action in the Japanese software chart last week, with only one new entry: the bizarre and potentially offensive Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed.

With gameplay built around exposing demon-possessed humans - judging by the available screenshots, often young women - by beating them until their clothes fall off, Akiba's Trip charted twice in the top ten when its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions were released in November last year, selling a combined total of almost 55,000 copies in its debut week.

The PlayStation 4 release has failed to make the same impact, selling a shade over 3,600 units and creeping into the chart at 17.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed will be released in North America by Marvelous in August. It remains to be seen how well its unique combination of brawling and near-nudity will be received outside of Japan.

The software top ten is below, with lifetime sales in parentheses:

  • 1. [PSV] Freedom Wars (SCEJ, 06/26/14) - 43,160 (232,048)
