Advergames – The missed opportunity?
Two surveys published in the last two weeks have drawn attention to the untapped potential of casual games. Estimates are that there are over 150 million casual games users, and in the US alone they generated $458 million dollars in revenue. According to Nielson entertainment 56% of all active gamers are online and both Nielson and a recent survey conducted by Popcap games indicate that this audience skews heavily towards females and older users.
To those who thought that the games industry was the domain of young males, the myth has been shattered.
According to the Popcap survey, (conducted by Information Solutions Group) over 70% of the audience is female, and 89% are over 30. This correlates with the Neilson finding which found that 64% of all online gamers are female. Not only that but when asked to list their favourite leisure pastimes they listed casual games above both watching television and listening to music.
These statistics reveal a largely untapped advertising market. To date very few corporate entities and creative agencies have exploited the casual games market and the huge advertising possibilities of advergames.
3RD sense, the specialist advergames agency, is offering agencies and brands the benefit of their advergame experience by hosting a free seminar in Sydney on Thursday 16 November. The seminar will be conducted by Colin Cardwell one of Australia's most experienced advergamers.
