Activision tops UK publisher ranking for July

Publisher Activision is celebrating a milestone for its UK division, after strong sales of movie licenses Spider-Man 2 and Shrek 2 made it into the number one publisher in the territory for the first time last month.

Figures gleaned from ELSPA's Chart-Track monthly report for July showed that Activision had 15 per cent market share in the UK, with Spider-Man 2 ranked at the top-selling game of the month.

"The exceptional performance of our movie-based games, which ranked as the #1 and #3 titles across all platforms for July, have driven Activision UK market share growth and made the company the #1 publisher for the month for the first time ever in the UK," enthused Roger Walkden, general manager of the publisher's UK division.

The firm might well hope for a repeat performance in August, too; as well as continuing strong sales of Spider-Man 2 and Shrek 2, last Friday saw the UK release of the eagerly awaited Doom 3, which is widely expected to take the top spot in tomorrow's weekly sales chart.
