Activision closes Vicarious Visions' office

Activision has closed down the Californian studio of Vicarious Visions, part of the team responsible for the publisher's number one Spider-Man franchise.

Activision has closed down the Californian studio of Vicarious Visions, part of the team responsible for the publisher's number one Spider-Man franchise.

The office has been closed to concentrate on the studio's main team located in New York, and while some of the 20 — 30 staff may be relocated, the majority have been laid off, according to Gamasutra.

Vicarious Visions has worked on Activision's key franchises including Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Doom III and the Tony Hawk's series. The developer most recently work on the Wii, PS2, DS and GBA versions of Spider-Man 3.

The developer was founded in 1991 and employs around 160 staff. It was acquired by Activision in 2005.
