AAA blockbusters keep 2011 sales from heavy declines

Games like Call of Duty and Arkham City prevent sales declines year-over-year

A new infographic by Statista shows that AAA titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Batman: Arkham City prevent sales from seeing significant declines. The chart - based on data from the NPD Group - shows year-over-year changes in monthly software sales.

Every month in 2012 has seen declines higher than 20 percent year-over-year. November, October, and September of 2011 were up due to the release of titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, and Gears of War 3. The highest gain in 2011 was in April with 25 percent jump over the previous year due to the release of Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat.
