3m users for free to play Need For Speed

PC-only online title now localised for international market

EA has announced three million registered users for Need For Speed World, the free to play online version of its racing series.

The PC-only title is supported by microtransactions, via a virtual currency known as Speed Boost. The proportion of paying users has not been revealed.

The game, originally English and German only, has been localised into French, Russian, Spanish and Polish since launch.

Need For Speed World was developed by EA Black Box and EA Singapore.

It's been a good year for the once-ailing car franchise, with the latest console iteration, Hot Pursuit, selling 417,00 units in the US over November.
