3 network launches real-time multiplayer mobile games

UK first: Free download with 'pay-per-play' real-time multiplayer gaming

UK video mobile network 3 has announced another first for the UK as the company partners with Synergenix to offer a unique micro payment system for real-time multiplayer gaming.

Building on the popularity of the single player games, Synergenix has developed exclusive real-time multiplayer versions of Lock 'n Load and Rally Pro, which will be available for Nokia Series 60 Smartphone handsets on the 3 network.

Introducing the micro payment model for the first time in the UK, Lock 'n Load Combat Arena and Rally Pro Contest MP will be available as a free download for 3 customers. Gamers then pay a small fee, which is added to their monthly bill or deducted directly from remaining phone credit, to join a real-time multiplayer game on the network.

Each multiplayer game costs GBP 0.50, for which players gain four lives to battle it out against real opponents in Lock 'n Load Combat Arena, or three races to compete with friends in Rally Pro Contest MP. The games will remain stored on the handsets and players can join a new multiplayer game whenever they wish. 3's billing system will automatically deduct GBP 0.50 for each game played.

Martin Forsling, Chief Executive Officer of Synergenix, commented: "This is a UK first, and could possibly be the first of its kind globally."

This distinctive payment model encourages new players to pick up and play games on their mobile handsets. It gives the customer the power to choose, and ultimately ensures for a more rewarding mobile gaming experience."

3 is currently the only UK network operator to provide customers with a choice of renting or buying mobile games, with a portfolio that includes several 3D and connected multiplayer titles. Single game rentals cost as little as GBP 0.25, or GBP 0.50 for three days of unlimited play. Customers can then purchase games for between GBP 3 and GBP 7.50.

The operator's games product manager, Oscar Clark, said: "Both Lock 'n Load Combat Arena and Rally Pro Contest MP are fantastic titles which offer players a very high quality multiplayer gaming experience."

"We're convinced that the combination of a great game and the payment model will attract a very broad audience of experienced gamers and new players alike."
