160GB PlayStation 3 due October 31

New SKU to cost EUR 449 and come bundled with EUR 70 worth of downloadable content

Sony is to release a new model PlayStation with a 160GB hard-drive, due for release on October 31.

The console will feature the same specifications at the current PlayStation 3, but will also come with EUR 70 worth of additional downloadable content, "to be announced closer to the release date," according to Sony president David Reeves.

The new SKU will carry a price of EUR 449.

Reeves also confirmed that the 80GB PlayStation 3 will go on sale this Friday across Europe.

Sony also revealed the PS3 has sold over 14 million units worldwide, 5.8 million of which have been sold in the PAL region, with the 6 million barrier "within our sights by the end of this month," according to Reeves.
