Publisher Vivendi Universal Games has announced the acquisition of one of its closest partners, with Simpsons: Hit & Run and Scarface developer Radical Games becoming the company's latest internal development studio.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Radical's full complement of more than 200 staff will be retained by VU Games, with founder Ian Wilkinson being named as president of the Radical Entertainment division.

Radical has been working closely with Vivendi for some time, and created multi-million selling titles such as The Simpsons: Hit & Run, The Hulk, and The Simpsons Road Rage, which sold over eight million units between them.

At present, the studio is working on a number of titles for VU Games, including three major franchise titles - The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Crash Tag Team Racing, and movie licensed title Scarface.

"The purchase of Radical Entertainment reinforces our commitment to strengthening VU Games' creative talent and internal console development capabilities," according to VU Games' CEO Bruce Hack. "Radicalâs focus will remain on entertainment-based console games for current and next generation platforms."
