Valve Index to launch June 15

VR headset to be sold separately from optional base station and motion controllers

Today, a mistakenly-published post to the Steam Store revealed a number of additional details about Valve's upcoming VR headset, the Valve Index, including a release date of June 15.

The headset was first revealed on Friday of last week with nothing more than a website teaser image and the name Valve Index. Today, multiple Steam Store pages went live for several minutes showing more details, though the pages also had placeholder text and were missing important info such as pricing. Valve has since confirmed to Engadget that the information on these pages was accurate, though the pages themselves were unfinished and not intended to be posted when they were.

The Valve Index will come with headphones and will feature "inside-out" tracking, meaning the headset doesn't necessarily need a base station to follow your position. Minimum PC requirements for the system include a dual-core processor with hyperthreading, 8GB of RAM, and at least a GeForce GTX 970 or a Radeon RX480 graphics card.

In addition, Valve is selling both a separate base station for the Index as well as a pair of motion controllers.

Valve has indicated it will reveal more details in May of this year.
