Steam app adds non-gaming categories

Valve's digital destination may be adding non-gaming applications soon

Valve may be considering selling non-gaming applications through its Steam distribution platform if a recent change to the Steam mobile app is any indication. The Verge noticed that an updated version of the Android app has new entries in the "Genre" list, including Accounting, Animation & Modeling, Photo Editing, and Software Training.

Through Steam, Valve already has access to a strong community of PC users. Being able to sell to this community could be a huge boon for some smaller application developers. Microsoft is releasing its centralized Windows Store with Windows 8, but that marketplace has to start from ground zero.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
