Sega, THQ, Atari, Eidos all sign for AWOMO games service

GDI's on-demand gaming and social networking service has received backing from major PC game publishers with some of last year's biggest titles joining the upcoming beta.

Game Domain International has revealed support from major publishers for it's on-demand and social networking service A World of My Own.

The fledgling service, currently in a beta phase but due to launch later this year, has signed up top PC titles from THQ, Sega, 2K Sports, Codemasters and Eidos for the trial.

Over 20,000 people have signed up for the beta testing program, with another 10,000 vacancies available. As well as free access, early adopters will be offered unique virtual items for their support during the beta.

"We're really pleased with the response to our call for AWOMO testers," said Roger Walkden, CEO of GDI.

"We're in the low-level technical test stage right now, but weâre excited about rolling this out to a much larger test audience in the near future."

Other publishers involved include Codemasters, Empire, Midas, Oxygen, Vivendi Games and NCsoft.

Some of the biggest titles on offer include Company of Heroes, F.E.A.R., Just Cause, Test Drive Unlimited and Tomb Raider Legend, with GDI promising over 70 complete titles for the beta.

A World of My Own combines an on-demand PC gaming service with a 3D virtual world, allowing social networking and multiplayer gaming to take place in a controlled environment.

GDI claims that AWOMO will allow users to begin playing games within minutes of initiating downloads, rather than hours, over a standard broadband connection.

High Street retailer GAME has already signed up to the service, with cross-promotional activities planned.
