Mad Catz, Harmonix co-publishing Rock Band 4

Peripheral maker re-teams with developer to handle retail sales, promotion, distribution for music game revival

Mad Catz is getting the band back together. The peripheral maker today announced that it will be re-teaming with developer Harmonix to co-publish the upcoming Rock Band 4.

As part of the deal, Harmonix will worry about the content of the game and handle digital sales efforts. Mad Catz will lead retail sales, promotion, and distribution efforts worldwide, in addition to being the exclusive hardware manufacturer for Rock Band 4's new controllers. (Harmonix has said it is trying to make the game compatible with existing controllers from other manufacturers.)

Mad Catz and Harmonix first struck up a partnership in the waning days of the last music games boom. In August of 2011, Mad Catz picked up publishing and distribution duties on the previous year's Rock Band 3 (taking over for MTV Games and Electronic Arts) and re-released it for that year's holiday season.
