Keywords Studios reveals new venture capital arm

Keywords Ventures launches with initial £300,000 investment into GDPR compliance app developer

Keywords Studios, a technical service provider for the games industry, has today announced a new venture capital arm.

Established in the UK, Keywords Ventures (KWV) will serve the dual purpose of investing in technology and services complimentary to the needs of the Keywords Group and its clients, and "accelerating the success of investee companies".

Keywords Studios CEO Andrew Day said that KWV will be making "selective and relatively small investments", unlikely to exceed five per cent of the firm's annual spend on acquisition.

KWV has already lined up its first investment, securing a 45 per cent share in AppSecTest Ltd for £300,000 in a Series A funding round.

Creator of AS Analyser, a tool which analyses apps for GDPR compliance without requiring access to source code, AppSecTest Ltd "fits the investment model of KWV particularly well".

Alongside the funding, Keywords has obtained an exclusive worldwide licence to commercialise AS Analyser, with client trials beginning this month and a full deployment possibly slated for September.

"Our established relationships with most of the world's leading games companies, and our expanded global presence, provide a strong platform to support investees' growth while adding further value to the relationships we enjoy with our clients," said Day.

"Our strategy to consolidate the fragmented market for video games services remains unchanged with KWV being highly complementary to this in bringing additional capabilities to our global services platform.
