GameTap has opened up its online gaming service to Mac users, offering 500 titles from its library of videogames.

Intel-based Mac users will be able access the service thanks to TransGaming's Cider engine which allows PC titles to run on Macs, Mac Minis and Mac Books.

"The availability of GameTap for the Mac represents an amazing inflection point for Mac gamers," offered Vikas Gupta, CEO of TransGaming.

"GameTap is a great boon to the gaming world and it's wonderful that GameTap is making their content available to the thriving Mac community."

Currently Mac users can only take advantage of the GameTap Lite Player, with the Deluxe Player promising full-screen gameplay and other features when it launches later this summer.

Titles on offer via the service include Metal Slug, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Invaders.
