Former Microsoft VP Taneja joins EA as CTO

Brings 15 years experience Xbox Live, Office and MSN to the company

EA has appointed a new chief technical offer in Ranet Taneja, who was formerly the corporate vice president, commerce division.

"Gaming is at a technological confluence that is almost unprecedented, where commerce, online delivery of content and services and multiple engagement platforms are converging," said Taneja.

"It's an exciting time to join EA, where they are clearly executing against a vision to lead the industry through this transition and deliver the best content to consumers."

Taneja's 15 year career at Microsoft spanned Xbox Live, Azure, Mobile, MSN, Office and online digital advertising. Previous to that he worked with Digital Equipment Corporation and Wipro Information Technology.

"Rajat is an exceptional addition to our executive leadership team at EA," added CEO John Riccitiello.

"His experience building a world-class online commerce and service platform will help EA continue our transformation into a leading provider of digital games and services."

EA recently faced job losses at its Visceral studio in Melbourne.
