Empire CEO steps down

Ian Higgins is leaving the company, now owned by Silverstar Holdings, after a 21-year career

Empire Interactive CEO Ian Higgins has announced that he will be leaving the publisher after spending 21 years with the company.

Higgins and co-founder Simon Jeffrey, the company's managing director, sold Empire Interactive to Silverstar Holdings back in 2006. He said that his decision to step down has been planned since the acquisition.

"It's been a great journey working with a bunch of fantastic people at Empire, but after almost 21 years its time to take a break," said Higgins.

"The company has some great titles planned and I look forward to seeing the successful launch of these in the months to come."

Higgins noted that development has changed a lot since Empire developed its first game - a project which costs GBP 6,000 and took two people three months from start to finish.

"It's been a complete and utter pleasure to work with Ian and to take a company that started with the two of us at a kitchen table to employing over two hundred people and floating it on the stock market," said Simon Jeffrey.

Empire is expected to announce a new CEO within the coming weeks.
