Sony and Nintendo "playing it safe" at E3
Following Nintendo and Sony's E3 conferences yesterday, analyst firm UBS Securities has suggested the two companies were both content to show a handful of new titles to the crowds – without revealing any new hardware, services or franchise favourites.
Rumours had suggested that both Nintendo and Sony would offer a 'big reveal' to the press in LA, but only a handful of new IP and business partnerships hasn't been enough to satisfy industry watchers.
"Both Nintendo and Sony were somewhat playing it safe," said UBS analyst Ben Schachter, speaking to the New York Times.
According to Schachter, Electronic Arts and Microsoft have also only delivered functional conferences, with a handful of new products enough to interest fans but not wow them completely.
"Through the first four press conferences there hasn’t been a real 'Wow' moment yet," he said.
"They seem to be covering their bases, showing a little bit of something for everyone, but there hasn’t been anything totally spectacular yet."
The E3 Media and Business Summit continues today and tomorrow.
