Eurogamer to launch German site later this month

Eurogamer Network, the British publishing company behind leading UK games website Eurogamer.net, has announced plans to launch a German language site later this month.

Launching at the Games Convention event in Leipzig at the end of this month, Eurogamer.de will extend Eurogamer's coverage of all gaming platforms, genres and styles to German speaking audiences, and will include broadband streaming video as well as text and interactive editorial.

The German site will have a dedicated team of journalists, based in Nuremberg, in order to provide fully localised content which is relevant to the German market and the tastes of German gamers.

It is being launched by Eurogamer Network in partnership with Extent Media GbR, a publishing company founded by former Computec chief editorial officer Oliver Menne and Thomas Borovskis, who headed up Computec's internet magazine division.

"The partnership with Extent Media meets all the requirements to repeat Eurogamer's tremendous success in Germany," commented Eurogamer Network managing director Rupert Loman. "Eurogamer.de is the first important step of our European expansion strategy. We're very happy to have found a long-term and experienced partner in Extent Media, a company that shares our vision for the future of video games editorial publishing."

Eurogamer Network is the publisher of GamesIndustry.biz.
