The global market for digital collectable card games will be worth $1.5 billion in 2018, with almost a third of that revenue earned in North America.
According to figures from a new SuperData report, North America will be worth $414 million of the $1.5 billion total this year. By 2020, the digital CCG market will rise to $2 billion, with $572 million generated in North America.
The most popular platform by far is mobile, with 71 per cent of players using a smartphone for CCGs. PC and tablet fell far short of that amount, with 47 per cent and 44 per cent of players respectively. As such, SuperData concluded that a "mobile-first design [is] key to success."
The most popular single franchise in the United States is Blizzard's Hearthstone; half of all digital CCG users have played Hearthstone in the last three months, comfortably ahead of Magic: The Gathering with 40 per cent.
