YouUp

Something to do with webcams and Windows Live Messenger.

LONDON, UK – March 3 2009 – Together, Ubisoft and Microsoft France launch “YouUp”, the first entertainment platform for webcams. The free beta version of “YouUp” is available today on Windows Live Messenger for anyone with a webcam.

Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio that created Rayman® and Rayman Raving Rabbids® among others, spent two years on the development of “YouUp,” which is the fruit of extensive research into video game technology. “YouUp” will allow users to revitalize their video chat and video messages, finally using their webcam as a fun and interesting communication accessory.

Now, anyone with a webcam coupled with ”YouUp” will be able to dress up their conversations with 3D costumes and special effects, surprising their friends on Messenger, or to create personalized films at the click of a button, while chatting live. “YouUp” puts Biometrics (face recognition technology) and Augmented Reality in the hands of the user, allowing everyone to insert virtual objects into their video in a realistic way.

“YouUp will allow users to truly enjoy chatting via webcam. This playful application is fun, offering disguises and hilarious 3D effects that adapt easily to each user’s face,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “Our partnership with Microsoft will allow a wide base of users to immediately benefit from YouUp.”

“With emoticons, winks or animated avatars, Windows Live Messenger has always prided itself on innovation. Our goal is to offer to our users a playful and free means to enrich their online conversations,” added Pierre Harand, director of Windows Live services at Microsoft. “The launch of YouUp to our French community is part of this plan. We are pleased to team up with Ubisoft to offer this all-new video experience.”
