Software sales lifts DS in Japan

Sales of the Nintendo DS picked up in Japan to coincide with the launch of Pokemon Ranger: Battonage, which went straight into the software chart at number one.

The DS sold over 65,000 units in the sales week ending March 23, according to Media Create, up from 53,000 the previous week.

The Nintendo Wii also moved up a place to second, shifting over 62,000 units, pushing the PlayStation Portable down to third place with just under 60,000 units.

The PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 remained static in fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.

The chart is as follows:

  • 1. Nintendo DS (65,055)
  • 2. Nintendo Wii (62,404)
  • 3. PlayStation Portable (59,833)
  • 4. PlayStation 3 (12,874)
  • 5. PlayStation 2 (9990)
  • 6. Xbox 360 (1407)
