Flight1 Offers Flight Sim Training In 'Second Life'

Join Flight1 for a FREE talk on "The Basics of Flying IFR" in the virtual world of Second Life with a real-world airline pilot!

Date: 25th July 2007

Flight1 are pleased to announce the first in a series of educational talks aimed at the simmer who wants to fly as real as it gets. The guest speaker is "Tricky Negulesco" as he is known in Second Life, who is also a Real-World Airline Pilot.

Do you fly using mark 1 eyeball or rely on the GPS? Learn to do things as the professionals do, using the aircraft's instruments. This talk will cover everything you need to know to get you from A to B in Microsoft Flight Simulator... Tracking ADF, DME, ILS and VOR radials, ILS Approaches, Radio Telephony, reading and interpreting Airway Charts and Approach Plates and much more.

This is the first in a series of talks aimed at the simmer who wants to fly as real as it gets and there will be time for questions and answers at the end to clear up that query you always wanted to know the answer to!

The date and time for your diary is Sunday, 5 August 2007. 1PM GMT (5AM PDT). The event will be repeated later the same day to fit in with other time zones at 5PM GMT (9AM PDT)

This is unique event to attend for pilots both real and simulation orientated - and with it being hosted within Second Life means it's as good as being there in person!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT

If you have not enrolled with Second Life, please do so a few days before the event to know how to move around. This talk will be in "Voice chat" using the "FIRST LOOK" Client. This is a live test version of the software in Second Life and runs independently of the normal Second Life Viewer. You must be using "FIRST LOOK" to attend this talk. Download "FIRST LOOK" from the Second Life website / Downloads section.

Make sure that you have headphones and microphone if you want to ask questions, or just use speakers to listen only. If you do not know how to get started in Voice Chat, download and install "FIRST LOOK" and arrive an hour before the start, where Flight1's Captain Gemini will be on hand to assist.

If the "FIRST LOOK" viewer is withdrawn for technical reasons, the event will be re-scheduled for a future date rather than attempt it in Text chat.

Send an IM in-world to Captain Gemini before the event if your require assistance with the "FIRST LOOK" Voice Chat or 15 minutes before the start if you need a Teleport to the event.

Membership of the Flight1 Pilots' Club and 'Second Life' are both free.

Log in to Second Life using the "FIRST LOOK" viewer, then search for Flight1 Pilots' Club. The event takes place in the First Floor Conference room above the skydiving shop, or if you not already a member of Second Life, go to the Second Life web site to register, create your 3D avatar and take a short tutorial which will teach you how to get around in-world.
