DS continues to outpace PSP in Japan

The Nintendo DS has held onto top spot and seen a slight gain in the Japanese hardware sales chart for the week ended August 31, according to data provided by Media Create.

Nintendo's portable device sold 56,439 units, up from 55,995 units the week before. In contrast, the PlayStation Portable's sales continued to decline, down to 41,664 units from 47,604 the previous week.

Elsewhere the Wii hit 35,755 units compared to 35,173 for the week before, and Sony's PlayStation 3 also saw an increase up to 9,775 units, from 9,020.

Bringing up the rear of the hardware chart was the PlayStation 2, reporting an increase in sales to 8,810 units, from 8,420, and the Xbox 360, which saw its sales drop slightly to 3,124 from 3,555.
