Microsoft inks original content deal with Safran

Microsoft has inked a deal with Safran Digital Group to distribute original entertainment over the Xbox Live platform.

SDG said that "full details of film-makers, talent and specific type of content will be disclosed at a later date," but according to the Media Week the first batch of content will be six scripted shows running at under 10 minutes, and focusing on specific genres such as horror and comedy.

Safran Digital Group was established by Peter Safran, a Hollywood producer responsible for Meet the Spartans and Over Her Dead Body, who has also represented talent including Sean Combs, David Schwimmer and film-makers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

The first shows are expected to be available this autumn, and once appearing on the Xbox 360 may become available on other formats.

These shorts are the first original content created for the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, which currently offers shows and movies for download from partners including MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and Warner Bros.
