Gametrailers site shuts down

Closes after 13 years

Gametrailers was always the first port of call for fans and bloggers following any big announcement, but after 13 years and growing competition from streaming sites the site is shutting down.

The company announced the news on social media:

The site went through a major relaunch in 2012 and in June 2014 was acquired by Defy Media. A few days later "half to two-thirds of full-time staff were let go."

Thats a real shame as to me atleast GT had the simplest, cleanest and no nonsense reviews out there.

I really enjoyed the GT Retrospectives. Someone needs to archive it all before it's gone.

Heart-breaking news. Probably my most used games site and I spent years active on the forums :'(

Awful news. Sad day for gaming sites overall. They cared more about making unique and fun content over being a glorified gaming news feed. GT will be missed.

Gametrailers had been my favorite place for years, not only for their reviews, but also for their shows. Going to miss them big time :(
