Destiny scores 20m Twitch views in launch week

More than any other console launch in 2014

Destiny has been as big a hit on video platform Twitch as it has on the charts, with content from the game viewed over 20 million times in launch week. That makes it, in Twitch terms, the biggest console launch on 2014 so far.

"Our community has always blown us away with their desire to share, entertain, and inspire," said David Dague, community manager at Bungie.

"Watching them broadcast their Destiny experiences on Twitch - from the Tower to the Crucible to the Vault of Glass Raid - has been nothing short of amazing. We're humbled by the enthusiasm and we hope our community knows we're watching and laughing and applauding back home at the studio."

Twitchers have watched over 240 million minutes of game play already. It follows on from Destiny's sales success, the game was hailed the most pre-ordered new IP ever and grossed $325 million worldwide in its first five days on sale.

"To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch," added Twitch's Matthew DiPietro.

"Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than five million unique viewers in the first week."
