Steam to host mods

Valve Software has begun to host selected mods directly on its digital distribution platform, Steam, starting from next week.

The five mods first to be hosted will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy and Zombie Panic. The mods will be available to download and play for free with any Source game and will appear on Steam users 'My Games' list.

"We're excited to see MOD developers get wider recognition for the hard work they have done, and we hope to support more MOD teams in the future," commented Valve.

All the mods will be able to make use of Steamworks, a suite of publishing and development tools unveiled earlier this year, to provide stat tracking and integration with the Steam community.
