Management delayed Killzone 2, not dev problems - SCEA

Sony has stated that it was a management decision to delay forthcoming shooter Killzone 2 until February 2009, due to scheduling.

The delay was revealed last month at the PlayStation Day in Europe, with Sony insisting it did not want to crowd the market this Christmas with too many first-person shooters for the PlayStation 3.

"To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title," said Ron Eagle, senior PR manager for Sony Computer Entertainment America.

"We (SCEA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out.

"Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season. The game will be great and it will be out in Feb 2009 in both Europe and North America," he added.

Killzone 2 was first unveiled at E3 in 2005 with a controversial trailer, and Sony has since said that it always intended to set the bar high for the game, developed by Guerilla Games.
