Emergent establishes Japan presence

Gamebryo engine available for Japanese developers

Emergent Game Technologies has announced the formation of Emergent Japan KK, to be managed by Acquire.

Under a strategic reseller partnership with Emergent, Acquire will market, sell and support the company's Gamebryo engine throughout Japan. Acquire, the company behind the Tenchu series, is currently using Emergentās Gamebryo engine for titles in development.

"Emergent Japan KK is singularly focused on being a creative catalyst for Japanese game developers," said Geoffrey Selzer, Emergent's CEO. "We teamed up with Acquire to ensure that we can provide not only our highly optimized middleware solutions, but also personalized, language-appropriate support."

"We look forward to helping our Japanese customers extract the most power and performance out of next generation hardware and break new ground in their creative endeavors."

Two weeks ago, Emergent introduced a highly-customised version of its Gamebryo engine for the Wii platform, currently the best-selling video game console in Japan. Gamebryo also supports game development in the multi-core processor environments inherent in PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PCs.

"Emergent Japan KK will be the developer's advocate for everything from casual online games to break-through titles for next generation consoles," said Richie Casper, creative director of Team Gaijin at Acquire.

"Acquire has first-hand experience as a developer in the Japanese market. We chose to work with Emergent because we believe in the quality, flexibility and scalability of the company's technology — in fact, we use it every day."
