Capcom ramps up iPhone game development

Japanese publisher set to release ten titles for the iPhone in the current fiscal year

Capcom has increased its production for iPhone games, revealing that it will release ten titles during this current fiscal year.

The information was revealed by Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe during a talk at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in Tokyo, according to Reuters.

Capcom has thus far released four titles for the iPhone and iPod Touch in 2009, including Mega Man 2, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader 2009, and Resident Evil: Degeneration, a mobile-exclusive entry in the publisher's popular survival horror franchise.

Capcom's mobile division was the weak point of its successful fiscal year that ended March 31. It should be noted, however, that the majority of this fiscal year did not include either of the publisher's two key franchise iPhone releases; Resident Evil: Degeneration premiered in May, while Mega Man 2 - a port of the popular Nintendo Entertainment System title - launched in late March, days shy of the fiscal year's end.
