Activision to acquire DemonWare

Irish developer snapped up for undisclosed sum

Following the emergence of rumours that Activision has acquired Irish software developer DemonWare, GamesIndustry.biz has learned that the reports are true.

Based in Dublin, with offices in LA and Vancouver, DemonWare was established in 2003 by Dylan Collins and Sean Blanchfield. The company specialises in creating real-time network software, producing middleware and components designed to reduce development times.

Its clients include Atari, Ubisoft and Activision, and DemonWare technology has been used in games including Blazing Angels, Call of Duty 3 and Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

According to a report by ElectricNews.net, the company has now been acquired by Activision in a deal which could exceed EUR 15 million.

A source has confirmed to GI.biz that the deal will officially be announced shortly. However, both Activision and DemonWare have so far declined to comment on the reports.
