Ubisoft acquires 1492 Studio

Publisher picks up Montpellier-based mobile developer behind narrative romance series Is It Love?

Ubisoft has consummated its relationship with 1492 Studio. The publisher today announced that it has acquired the developer of the Is It Love? series of free-to-play episodic mobile games.

"Is It Love? already is one of the leaders in episodic, narrative-driven mobile games, with a highly-engaged community of players," Ubisoft Mobile executive director Jean-Michel Detoc said. "This deal is in keeping with our strategy of reaching new audiences through smart, targeted, and highly profitable acquisitions."

Is It Love? games are choose-your-own-adventure style dating games where players are put into themed stories with potential paramours such as a vampire, a rock star, or a co-worker.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

[CORRECTION]: Contrary to the original report, Ubisoft has said it expects the deal to be immediately accretive to its earnings. We regret the error.
