Battlefield 1 knocks FIFA from the UK's top spot

EA DICE's shooter enters the chart at #1 based on physical sales

Battlefield 1 made a solid debut in the UK physical retail chart, selling more in its first week than Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline combined.

Gfk Chart-Track's data doesn't include digital sales, which all went through EA's Origin storefront, but it's a clear indicator that DICE's decision to return to historical combat has struck a chord with shooter fans. Indeed, Battlefield 1 had the most popular beta in EA's history, attracting some 13.2 million people in September.

The critics have also shown their appreciation, resulting in Metacritic scores of 89 on PC and PlayStation 4, and 87 on Xbox One. You can read our summary of the general critical opinion here.

That's still a lower score than Civilization VI, another new release last week, and one that didn't trouble the UK top ten. Firaxis' latest has a 94 score on Metacritic, but it finished the week at number 15 in the chart. That's due to being a PC game, of course, and Steam Spy indicates that it already has around 620,000 owners.
