FIFA, Deus Ex, Sword and Sworcery take top honors at Canadian Videogame Awards

EA Sports newest FIFA was named Game of the Year

Over the weekend, the Canadian Videogame Awards (CVA) took place alongside the Fan Expo Vancouver event, and EA Sports' FIFA 12 took the biggest award of them all: Game of the Year. Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution was also honored as Best Console Game while Capybara Games' Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP was given awards for Best Game On The Go, Best Downloadable, Best Indie, Best Original Music and even an Innovation Award.

"Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees tonight," said Victor Lucas, executive producer of The Electric Playground and CVA co-founder, "the games we saw at the show this evening are world-class and illustrate once again that Canadian game developers are second to none when it comes to creating interactive entertainment!"

  • Best Social/Casual Game: Margaritaville Online (Exploding Barrel Games)
  • Best Game Design: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Eidos-Montreal)
  • Best Technology: Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Ubisoft Montreal)
  • Best Visual Arts: Assassin's Creed Revelations (Ubisoft Montreal)
  • Best Writing: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Eidos-Montreal)
  • Best Indie Game: Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP (Capybara Games)
  • Best New Character: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Eidos-Montreal)

Fifa is a strange choice. I mean, it's one of only two games I play regularly (the other being NHL), but I appreciate most people have longer attention spans for games than me:) I'd have thought Deus Ex or AC would have been more likely choices.
