Indie charity pack brings in $400k in 17 hours

Pay-what-you-want Humble Bundle donating to Child's Play, EFF

A cartel of independent developers have teamed together for the second round of the Humble Indie Bundle, which will share its proceeds with the Electronic Frontier Foundation and charity Child's Play.

Customers may pay a price of their choosing for the five-game pack, and then dictate what percentage of their money goes to the titles' developers, to the two good causes, or to Humble organiser Wolfire Games.

Included in the pack are DRM-free versions of respected titles Braid, Cortex Command, Machinarium, Osmos and Revenge of the Titans.

Minecraft creator Markus Persson has donated $2000 to the bundle, while Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has given $500.

A number of download stores are also paying large sums, apparently in order to have their services' URLs appear on the site's front page.

At the time of writing the Humble Bundle has raised $403,827 in revenue, across 57,117 purchases, in just 17 hours.

The Linux versions of the games are attracting the highest average price, at $13.66, while Windows and Mac are seeing $5.90 and $8.02 respectively.

The first bundle, released this May, raised over $1 million in seven days, with $330,265 of that split equally between Child's Play and the EFF. Each of the indie developers involved earned $105,230.
