PlayStation 2 most played console of 2008

Sony's PlayStation 2 has topped the list of the most played consoles in the US, according to research conducted and published by Nielsen.

The company saw its console for the previous generation maintain its relevance and top the list with 31.7 per cent of all gamers' time spent playing on the machine. However, the PlayStation 3 fared the poorest out of all the major consoles, with only 7.3 per cent.

Microsofts' Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii occupied the middle places respectively with 17.2 per cent and 13.4 per cent.

Nielsen also listed the top PC games of the year, with World of Warcraft dominating the category with the average time spent playing the MMO hitting 671 minutes a week, followed by Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, at 403 minutes.
