Massively multiplayer online developer Monumental Games has appointed ex-Kuju studio head Mike Cox as business development director for the EMEA region.

In his new role Cox will work with Monumental CEO Rik Alexander on the company's 3D browser-based MMO middleware technology, acting as a key point of contact with external publishers.

Cox formerly held a similar role at middleware company Emergent. He has also been studio head of Kuju's Chemistry studio in Sheffield, England and development director at Electronic Arts (on the Catwoman and Battlefield properties).

Cox also co-founded motion caption studio AudioMotion in 1997, now one of Europe's largest motion capture facilities.

"Mike's expertise in the middleware market and strong gaming heritage make him the perfect addition to the team," said Alexander. "His experience and skills will prove invaluable as we start to move into the 3D browser MMO middleware arena."
