Codemasters secures Formula 1 licence
UK publisher Codemasters has picked up the Formula 1 racing licence, with the first titles schedule to appear in 2009.
Previously only available on PlayStation platforms through Sony, Codemasters will be working across all formats using its own EGO Engine, recently used for Colin McRae DIRT and the forthcoming Race Driver: GRID.
"As a world-leading creator of driving games, this alliance with Formula 1 is the jewel in Codemasters’ racing crown and creates an undisputed segment champion," offered Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters.
"Formula 1 has gone with the best, the segment leader. It has gone to the home of the EGO Engine for quality; it has gone to the company that can host Formula 1 Online, to the company that is streaking away from the pack," he added.
The licence gives Codemasters the rights to all Grand Prix circuits, Formula 1 teams, cars, drivers and likenesses.
