Bonus pay held back at Midway

A Midway representative has confirmed that staff bonuses are being withheld at the company due to the ongoing legal and financial issues plaguing the publisher.

Any bonus pay due to strong sales of Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe is being held back by the unsecured creditors of the publisher following its fall into bankruptcy late last year.

"Midway is not refusing to pay out those bonuses," a representative told Kotaku. "It's the unsecured creditors committee that is refusing to allow us to pay them. They're the ones holding that up."

The same report suggests that Midway's Mortal Kombat team – comprised of around 50 developers – is unhappy with the publisher and is currently in talks to either form its own studio or partner with other publishers.

Midway has said that it is already considering the sale of the Mortal Kombat franchise, although again, bonuses paid to staff who secure such a deal have been amended after creditor hostility.

Midway is currently consolidating its business, and has recently opted to co-publish the forthcoming Wheelman title with Ubisoft.
