Toukiden and Vita take second place in Japan

All change on the software charts, but 3DS XL still on top

A top five full of new entries in the Japanese chart has helped boost the PlayStation Vita to second place this week, just a couple of thousand sales behind the 3DS XL. It's 31,271 sales this week are a massive increase on last week's 13,422.

  2. PlayStation Vita - 31,271 (13,422)
  3. 3DS - 17,440 (14,988)
  4. PlayStation 3 - 12,554 (9,816)
  5. Wii U - 7,060 (5,329)
  6. PSP - 6,492 (5,091)
  7. Wii - 1,338 (1,234)
  8. Xbox 360 - 330 (282)

Meanwhile four of the five new entries on the software chart were for PlayStation systems, with just Etrian Odyssey Untold at 3 flying the flag for the 3DS. Vita title Toukiden at 2 can also be credited with the success seen by Vita this week.

Can we stop acting like the 3DS XL and the 3DS are separate platforms rather than separate SKUs? I understand that's how Media Create reports the data, and I do appreciate the ability to see the data by SKU (I wish they did it with other platforms)... but statements like "helped boost the PlayStation Vita to second place this week, just a couple of thousand sales behind the 3DS XL" are pretty misleading. It's really a good 50% behind the 3DS, which is the relevant data for comparison's sake.
