Wright confirms continued involvement in Spore

Despite departure from EA, Wright is still involved in Maxis franchise

The Sims and Spore creator Will Wright has confirmed his continued involvement with Electronic Arts' Spore franchise, despite having left the publisher in early April.

In an interview with consumer publication GameDaily, Wright revealed that he is continuing to consult on the EA/Maxis franchise he helped create.

"I don't think it was widely reported, but alongside this whole [Stupid Fun Club] thing, I also entered into a consulting agreement with EA," said Wright.

GamesIndustry.biz reported on Wright's departure from EA and formation of creative think tank Stupid Fun Club earlier this month. While it was clear that EA would continue working with Wright as the principal shareholder of the new venture, with Wright saying at the time that he looked forward to working with EA "in the near future," it was unclear if Wright would continue to be involved in Spore development.

"I'm spending a certain amount of time every month actually working with the Spore team on future versions of Spore and expansions," Wright said today. "So I will [still] be involved with EA on developing the Spore franchise as well."
