Wii still on track to ship 6 million units by March ‘07

While Sony has revised its shipment figures for the launch of the PlayStation 3, Nintendo of America has reiterated its intention to ship six million units of its Wii console.

"Wii is on track to ship in Q4. Nintendo plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007," said NoA in an official statement.

Although definite launch details have not yet been forthcoming, Nintendo has arranged press events next week to discuss the finer points of the Wii launch, with a solid price and date expected to be announced.

Regarding Sonyâs recent troubles in Europe, where the launch of the PlayStation 3 has been delayed until March 2007, a spokesperson for Nintendo Europe offered, "We do not comment on other companyâs plans or announcements."
